A new, timber-framed house build in a quiet village with the brief being to create a warm and comforting home with low-energy credentials.
Our clients had contacted us to invite us to consult with them on building a new home for them in the centre of a Norfolk village. Upon meeting, we became aware that they and we had a shared interest in timber-framed construction and, after discussing the virtues of timber-frame construction with them, it was chosen as the preferred construction type due to its ability to achieve;
A local architect was engaged to obtain planning and building regulations approval for the ‘back-garden development’ plot and, crucially, to design the house to sit on its land in a way that created interesting areas and spaces in which to locate the driveway, garage, terrace area and rear garden and to take advantage of the position of the sun. The result is a property that features two main volumes on a cranked footprint, linked with a ‘circulation area’, finished in contrasting yet complimentary brick and timber cladding, adding interest to the exterior aesthetic.
The interiors were to feel warm and cosy and to feature natural finishes of stone and wood flooring, finished in a high quality decoration.
The home was to house a bi-generational family consisting of the clients themselves and an elderly parent, who would have part of the house to herself, enjoying a sense of separation whilst benefiting from being close at hand.

The build commenced and was soon rapidly increasing in height thanks to the efficiency of the timber-frame. Service runs were easily laid in the structure and the preparation for the heating was simple and straight-forward.
Once the frame was erected fully, the roof finish was added and the brick external leaf was built, tied into the frame.
The clients chose a lovely pallet of finishes including, stone floors with underfloor heating, solid Oak doors, softwood skirting and a bespoke-made kitchen, all dovetailing together to produce a wonderfully high-end finish complimenting the quality of the house’s design and build.
Six years later, the property has bedded into its surroundings so well that it’s added to the quality of the area and enhanced its surroundings.
